When Miss Universe Australia 2012 Renae Ayris received her tiara at Melbourne Sofitel on Friday night she had the added thrill of accepting the title from her friend - 2011 Miss Universe Australia Scherri-Lee Biggs.

Ayris said it was watching Biggs experience as Australia Miss Universe that inspired her to enter the pageant this year.

Dressed in a navy and silver cocktail dress by Perth designer Ruth Tarvydas, the 21-year-old blonde looked bright and fresh on Saturday despite having not slept a wink the night before.

The life-altering announcement still hadn sunk in when she fronted the media for her first official press call as Miss Universe Australia.

"I so overwhelmed still, everything is just a blur from last night," Ayris gushed.

"I going to wake up one morning and say, `Wow I Miss Universe Australia Miss Universe competition was the model first time in a beauty pageant, but she has taken a shot at fame before.

She is an avid dancer who auditioned for a role in Baz Luhrmann Academy Award-winning film Moulin Rouge!.

"I got down to the very last cut but I was too young," she said.

Being crowned Miss Universe Australia will open up Trouwjurk 2012 other avenues to Ayris.

As part of her duties she will be Trouwjurken Met Kant acting as the charity ambassador for Operation Smile, a children medical charity dedicated to improving the lives of children in developing countries born with facial deformities.

Police have found the body of an Italian artist and activist who went missing while hitchhiking in Turkey dressed in a wedding gown to appeal for peace, officials said Saturday.

A man suspected of killing the artist, Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo, 33, was detained late Friday and charged with murder Saturday, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported.

The Trouwjurken nl woman was last seen on March 31 in the industrial city vloer-length avondjurken of Gebze while hitchhiking to Israel in the wedding dress as part of her "Brides on Tour" project aimed at pleading for peace in conflict areas.

Police found her naked body hidden in bushes in a forested area near Gebze, northwest Turkey, after questioning the suspect late Friday, the governor's office said.

The artist, also known as Pippa Bacca, was hitchhiking to the Palestinian territories with a friend, who was also wearing a wedding gown.

The two left di Marineo's hometown of Milan on March 8 and hitchhiked to Turkey together. They separated in Istanbul shortly before di Marineo went missing, with the aim of reuniting in Beirut, Lebanon.

Police tracked down the suspect when he switched on di Marineo's mobile phone, having inserted his own SIM card, an Italian Embassy official said. "She was a determined person when it had to do with working for art."
